Unit Summary

How do population changes impact people and the environment?

In this unit students will learn about global population change over time. Students will identify reasons for historic and current population changes and analyze the push and pull factors of human migration. Students will also analyze the impact human population changes and rapid urbanization have had on humans and the environment. In science classes students will examine specific case studies to see how environmental issues impact our world and our own community. Students will research a specific issue or problem they feel interested in that is related to population change and propose a solution to the problem. Students will construct a 60 second video to communicate their problem/solution ideas and submit this to the World of 8 Billion Video Project sponsored by Population Education. Students will have the opportunity to win $500 in this global competition!

  • I can identify problems caused by human population shifts and rapid urbanization for communities and the environment.
